Ryan,
First you put flames for the times short handed.
Second Staal was a great player here and one of my favorites. However he may be the better player but he isn't 3 mil and polliout and Domoulin better that's for sure. Shero won that trade hands down. I'll be interested to see what happens when like you said Sutter gets quality linemates. |

I think we should wait and see how Dumoulin and Pouliot turn out before it's determined if Shero won the deal or not. Sutter has turned into one of my favorite players on the team and both prospects look to be good ones. I'm really excited to see what Pouliot can bring. We'll see though... |

They were traded for eachother. They play the same position, one is not playing too much better than the other who was traded along with a top 10 draft pick. Of course they will be compared.
Staal needs to score more, otherwise they moved a top 10 pick, prospect and a 3rd line center for just a slightly better 3rd line center.
Staal also recieves over 2 min per game in PP time, so it's not like he is provided no offensive advantages.

Frankly there both overrated IMO. Not bad players but nowhere near star players like Pittsburgh and Carolina thought they were. |

Shouldn't it be said there's a reason that staal is stuck in the same tilde he had with the pens and it's because he wasn't doing anything offensively when he got there. |

No matter how you slice it, Jordan Staal is not worth 6 million dollars a year. |

Orpik and Glass return to the lineup, Malkin and Scuderi look to remain out. Vitale in for Dupuis on top line.
Engelland is also eligible for a return and was paired with Orpik in line rushes. |

Damn , I thought Scuds was closer to coming back ? It'll be great to have him back prowling the blue line. |

Agreed , but the canes had money to burn and wanted to lock him up, but he is no where near worth that much. |

Brutal news about Dupuis, I assume you guys are going to be pretty active to try and replace his spot for the playoff push. |

How are they not fair to Staal? Dude is making 6 Million a year to produce like a 3rd line center. Statistically (since we all know how much you love pretty pie charts and graphs) has produced no more than Brandon Sutter AND Jordan plays on the top PP unit in Carolina (something you failed to mention). I agree that we need to see how Dumolin and Pouliet play out before deciding who made out in this deal, but at this point it looks like another dash in the win column for Shero. |

Real tricky situation now especially that the most likely defenseman to be traded is niskanen and not many people are going to take a chance on him as he is a free agent after the season. Looks like they will have to depart with some of their very promising prospects before they wanted to. I'd really like to get evander Kane away from Winnipeg and I think the pens have the assets to do so. |

Despres would be the most likely guy to be moved. He has value, Niskanen is a pending UFA. |

Good point I don't really think they would want to move him with niskanen and Orpik both being FA's too and he would be able to play for either right away and could play right now. I don't think moving despres is best for the team next year or in the years to come. I think we could get excellent value for a niskanen from a contender that lacks defensive depth say a Chicago regardless of his contract status. |

It is not an ideal situation with the Dupuis injury. You are correct with Niskanen and Orpik, their uncertain status makes things a lot more risky when dealing a guy like Despres.
At the same time the Penguins only get so many years of Crosby/Malkin in their prime, they have to maintain a win now attitude. Unfortunately that might cost a player like Despres way sooner than Shero or any of us would like.
Chicago isn't going to give you anything that helps in the present though, they are a contender. |

Any idea of realistic options that might be available via trade? I would like to see Matt Moulson, but would not give up Despres just to have him for the remainder of the season. |

Shero will find something hopefully. Other teams know we are a little desperate now. |

While I completely agree, do you think Shero will take the rest of this season to continue to aggressively pursue a "win now mentality"? I get the feeling a lot of nothing may happen, and that might hurt the teams chances at a cup more than anything.

The only thing I am sure of is if Shero makes a bigger move with one of the prospects he will be acquiring a guy he has contractual control over. It won't be a rental.
It will be a Kunitz/Neal situation, not and Iginla/Morrow situation. |
